The NVQ coaching course is designed for those with a keen interest in sport and for those actively engaged in running sports clubs.
Course content
The course aims to give a practical insight into sports leadership, coaching and sports development and organisation via theory and practical skills. Units include:
- Prepare for sport activity session
- Lead sport activity sessions
- Conclude and review sport sessions
- Support the work of the team and organisation
- Promote health and safety welfare in active leisure and recreation
- Support equality and diversity in active leisure

Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade D or above which include English and Mathematics or a Level 1 sport qualification with Merit grade and Functional Skills English & Maths. Students with a Pass grade will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference.
Delivery & Assessment methods
A broad range of assessment methods are used including; practical, written, role plays, discussions, witness statements. All evidence is gathered in portfolio and presented to the examination board.
