The Sports Coaching Apprenticeship is designed for individuals looking to develop a career in sport, and more specifically, within sports coaching.
This Apprenticeship is delivered by Ignite Sport.
The Apprenticeship comprises of educational sports courses, practical work-based skills and industry recognised coaching awards that are relevant to each pathway. Apprentices will also develop their coaching skills within their chosen sport through personal development modules.
This is a 12 month programme, with all qualifications assesses

The Apprenticeship comprises of educational sports courses,

that are relevant to each pathway. Apprentices will also develop
their coaching skills within their chosen sport through personal
development modules.

and verified through coursework and practical examinations.
You gain a nationally-recognised qualification while developing
the skills and experience needed to pursue a career in sports
coaching in a variety of settings, from schools to community
clubs.
You also obtain a valuable insight into the types of role available
to you within this sector.
For this Advanced Apprenticeship, applicants must have:
- Minimum Grade D at English and Maths
- Ideally a Level 2 sports qualification (BTEC, NVQ etc)
- Past experience in Sport (i.e GCSE PE, CSLA, team coaching,
referee qualification etc)
On completing the Apprenticeship, all Apprentices will be supported to continue working within the Sports Industry. There will be numerous opportunities with Ignite Sport UK, both at entry level and as Primary Sports Coaches. However, support is also provided for those Apprentices who wish to explore other options of the industry (such as Fitness Instructors or Sports Development Officers). There are also coaching opportunities abroad, namely in the USA.
