Description
The course looks at science as applied to the human body in sport. It also includes the management and organisation of the sports industry. You will study units in anatomy, physiology, sport skills appraisal, science, sports psychology, nutrition and coaching. Theory sessions are balanced with practical sport and coaching sessions. You will further develop your English, Maths and ICT skills to help you to complete your course work and prepare for further study or employment. Initially in year one you will study for a Subsidiary Diploma. Successful students will be invited to study for the Extended Diploma which they will complete in year two of the course.

During the course you will visit sports venues and participate
in work experience and sporting activities. There will be the
opportunity to gain recognised coaching qualifications. You will be
encouraged to take part in and receive coaching in a range of
sporting activities.
The course also features a residential trip, guest speakers from
the sports industry and a relevant work placement in your first
year. Assessment is carried out using a variety of assessment
methods including individual work projects, group work,
presentations, research and case studies.
The college uses appropriate sports facilities which are mostly off-site. All students have access to the fully equipped IT suite and Learning Resource Centre.
Five GCSE grades A*-C including English Language, Maths and Science, and ideally PE or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit or above, with Functional Skills at Level 2. You could progress to employment in the sport and leisure industry, or on to higher education to a relevant Foundation Degree or degree course.
