The BTEC Sport and Exercise Science programme is coursework based
and students need to complete all units. The optional unit in
treatment and management of injuries is assessed by a multiple
choice exam paper and a practical exam.
You complete all units for the Diploma in Sport and Exercise
Science. Within your full-time timetable you also complete a
minimum of six hours per week of professional coaching, and/or
basketball related activities, which includes participation in one
of our representative teams.
The qualifications awarded are the Diploma in Sport or the Edexcel Extended Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science, and functional skills qualifications in English, maths or ICT. You also improve the wider skills you need to succeed in further study or employment e.g. self-confidence, speaking in front of others, working with others, taking responsibility and managing your time. By the end of the course you will have gained a valuable insight into future careers open to you.
Applicants for a Level 3 programme will normally have at least 4
GCSEs at Grade C or above (including some subjects related to the
proposed area of study) and/or a completed Level 2 award, and the
willingness to study for an additional Level 2 qualification in
English and/or Maths.
If you are interested in a Level 3 programme and have alternative

have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the
programme.
This basketball course offers excellent pathways to higher education courses including sports coaching, sports therapy and sports science. You can also look to gain employment with local sports coaching companies or other sport and recreation organisations.
