The Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is for pre-service or in-service teachers or associate teachers.
CTLLS is a teacher training course aimed at candidates who are deemed to be in an associate teacher role or would like or require an introduction to teaching in the lifelong sector.

It is also suitable for those seeking career progression within their area of work and have access to 30 teaching practice hours (whether pre-service or in-service) or teach on a one-to-one and/or group basis.

How long is the course?

30 weeks. Attendance is required for 30 weeks for 3.5 hours per week on a Thursday evening. There is also a need to commit additional hours outside of the course time.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a combination of written and practical work. The course tutor will observe you delivering to your learners in the workplace on at least three occasions as part of your assessment.

What will I study?

You will study three units whilst on the course. Before you start the course you need to have successfully completed the PTLLS qualification.

The three units of the CTLLS programme are:

Planning and enabling learning

Principles and Planning of Assessment

Equality and diversity

Join Institute for Learning (IFL). This is the professional body for teachers in the lifelong learning sector.

What does the course lead to?

Potential progression would be to further teacher training on the DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector), also available to study in Mansfield at West Notts College. You would also be qualified to teach in a Further Education environment.

Entry requirements

You will need to be qualified/experienced in the subject area you wish to teach (to at least Level 3).

You will also need to have at least 30 hours teaching practice over the length of the course. All candidates need a Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification.

All applicants need to have completed the PTLLS award before commencing on to the CTLLS programme.
