This is a part time teacher training course for those who work
in the lifelong learning sector. It is offered at Level
4/5.
The Programme
This course is for teachers working in a full teaching role in
any context in the lifelong learning sector. The lifelong learning
sector includes adult and community learning; the voluntary sector;
further education colleges; offender education; work based
training; Ministry of Defence training. This involves having
responsibility for developing materials and curriculum across a
full programme with a variety of learners. You will need 50 hours
of teaching practice in each of the two years (100 hours in total),
and a further 50 hours of 'other professional duties' such as team
meetings, open evenings, professional development activities.The
aim of the programme is to develop your teaching skills and enable
you to gain Qualified Teacher Learning Skills (QTLS) status.
The Programme Content
The first year comprises two 30 credit modules:
Learning, Teaching and Assessment;
Theories & Resources for Teaching and Learning.
The second year comprises a further two modules:
Curriculum & Society;
Wider Practice & Professional Development.
Each module will be assessed through a 2500 word written assignment
- or equivalent - based on your reflections on how principles of
learning, teaching and assessment apply in practice.
Venue
Barnstaple Campus
Dates
The course will run at both the Barnstaple and Tiverton campuses
on Wednesday and Friday afternoons respectively. It will run for
three hours per week for four terms across two academic years
(September to May). In addition, there will be a minimum of four
hours a week private study, assignment work and tutorial. Teaching
practice is in addition to this.
