CTLLS

A Certificate in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a qualification for teachers who need the necessary knowledge and skills for a career in teaching at an associate level. The CTLLS course enable you to be officially qualified as an associate teacher in continuing education that is someone who works from pre-designed curricula to teach a particular subject or learner type. Acquiring the CTLLS certificate qualifies you for Associate Teacher, Learning & Skills (ATLS) status and is your licence to teach.

Please note that this course is not suitable for those teaching in schools, even if you are teaching post 16 students. You will also need to have achieved Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector level 3/4 prior to coming onto this course, or have APEL from 7307 or 7407 teaching qualifications.

Outline of Program:

You will gain the knowledge and skills required of the associate teaching role, and will apply and consider these through the following units:

Mandatory:

• Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector: six credits (level 3/4)
• Planning and Enabling Learning: nine credits (level 3/4)
• Principles and practice of assessment: three credits (level 3/4)

Optional:

• Equality and Diversity: six credits (level 3/4)
• Preparing for the Coaching Role: three credits (level 3/4)
• Preparing for the Mentoring Role: three credits (level 3/4)
• The Coaching and Mentoring Roles: six credits (level 3/4)
• Delivering Employability Skills: six credits (level 4)
• Evaluating learning programmes: three credits (level 4)
• Principles and Practice of Instructional Techniques: six credits (level 4)
• Specialist Delivery Techniques and Activities: six credits (level 4)
• More units are in development, and may include:
• Reflection on the context or setting in which teaching and learning takes place
• Elements related to a particular teaching role
• Specialised units on particular subjects, for example €'assessment'€™

The 7304 Certificate will give you practical teaching experience through micro-delivery sessions amongst your peers and work-based scenarios through your 30 hours practice; developing confidence and core planning and presentation ability.  

Assessment:

The course is delivered over 8 days. There are 3 assignments to be completed of which one will be a micro teaching session. Assessment will involve 3 lesson observations, theory assignments and practical presentations of work. Incorporation of the minimum core, reflective learning journal will also be assessed. There are no exams, although assignments will have deadlines which you will be expected to keep to.
