Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
This part-time CTLLS programme is for adults who want to teach in the lifelong learning sector i.e. in post-16 environments. It's the ideal next step after PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and practical teaching experience is a central focus of the programme.
There are 4 components to the course:
Teaching experience
This is the central focus of the course. Teaching is arranged by students and a minimum of 30 hours teaching is required

Observation of teaching
You will be observed for a total of 3 hours (normally 3 x 1 hour observations). The observations help you to get feedback so you can improve and gain in confidence

Observation of teaching
You will be observed for a total of 3 hours (normally 3 x 1 hour
observations). The observations help you to get feedback so you can
improve and gain in confidence
Assessment is by teaching practice (observation) and theory
assignments. The assignments draw on your experience and reading
and are largely driven by student interest and tutor guidance. They
can be achieved at Level 4 or Level 5.
You build on the knowledge gained in PTLLS and cover areas such
as:

Planning and enabling inclusive learning to meet the needs of
students

Equality and diversity
You need to have completed and passed PTLLS (Preparation for
Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) to apply for this CTLLS
programme.
You need to have 30 hours teaching in the lifelong learning sector
in place to start the course. Entry to the course is via an
application form and an interview. You also need to take an online
assessment of literacy and numeracy skills to Level 2, and complete
a short free writing assessment.
To start the programme you must be suitably qualified for the
subject(s) you want to teach (normally at least a Level 3
qualification) and have GCSE English (grade A-C) or equivalent.
Upon successful completion, you can progress to the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).
Candidates must be qualified in their field of expertise
(normally at least a Level 3 qualification).
The lifelong learning sector (post-16 education) includes further
education, adult and community learning, work-based learning and
offender education.
