Health and Social Care Level 2 BTEC
The BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations and activities. It introduces you to the health and care industry, and provides a good basis to go to a more advanced work-related qualification.
The Level 2 BTEC Diploma is a full-time course and is equivalent to four GCSEs grade A*-C. You will study four compulsory units and four of the seven available specialist units chosen by staff.

Course Content

- Individual rights within the Health and Social Care sectors
- Individual needs within the health and social care sectors
- Ensuring safe environments in Health and Social Care
- Vocational experience in a Health or Social Care setting
- Cultural diversity in Health and Social Care
- Anatomy and physiology for Health and Social Care
- Human lifespan development
- Creative and therapeutic activities in Health and Social Care
- Health and Social Care services
- The impact of diet on health
Assessment
This course has no final examination. Learners complete six portfolios of coursework which are assessed and graded internally by course teachers. When all units have been completed, assessed and graded, an overall grade for the qualification is awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
A Communication Key Skills Portfolio will be assessed under Edexcel Level 2 criteria.
Examination Board: Edexcel. Equivalent to: Four GCSEs
A New Way of Working
The course is taught by experienced and well qualified staff. Emphasis will be on student responsibility for their own learning.
Monitoring and assessment of coursework is continual and students must work in their own time to complete tasks.
Progression
Students gaining Merit grades or above may be considered for the Advanced course: GCE A Level in Health and Social Care.
A BTEC First Diploma is valued when applying for jobs.
Entry Requirements
A reasonably good standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs for grades D-G
