This part-time course allows you to extend your career in palliative care nursing, with the emphasis on teaching and learning methods. This element of the palliative care route aims to enhance the quality of health care by fostering a broader, deeper and more critical approach to palliative care and education. The course will prepare you for a deeper involvement in the development and communication of the theories behind your practice. The applied education element of this course allows you to register on the 'teacher' division of the NMC. The course is also recognised by SEDA (the Staff and Educational Development Association), and accredited by the HEA (Higher Education Academy). This course's aim is to encourage independent and autonomous learning, along with confident teaching and communication techniques. You'll build on your existing knowledge and skills to a point where you will be confident in your ability to participate more actively in your chosen field, particularly in the area of policy development and communication. What's involved Based over three years, the course is conducted as a blended learning process, involving a combination of lectures, tutorials, online study, workshops and independent study. Year 1 Symptom Management in Palliative Care, Therapeutic Communication in Palliative Care, Strategic and Global Issues in Palliative Care Year 2 Professional Study and Practices, Effective Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Contexts, Research Methods, Assessment Evaluation and Support Year 3 Dissertation

Requirements at a glance Entry to the course To apply, you will need to be currently in a role which has a contractual obligation for teaching, learning and assessment and, if you require registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (nurses and midwives only) you need to have been a registered practitioner working with students for a minimum period of three years.Fees Table Fees 2012/132013/14 Home/EU£570£570per 20cr PC/PDHome/EU£350£35060cr DissertationOverseas£1,550£1,614per 20cr PC/PDOverseas£1,050£1,08060cr Dissertation Fees displayed are correct at the time of publication but the University Court reserves the right to make changes in fees at any time, and without notice, before or after the student's admission to the University.
