This advanced level course covers all aspects of the travel and tourism industry, and is designed for people keen to progress directly into employment in the industry or to higher education. This advanced level course covers all aspects of the travel and tourism industry, and is designed for people keen to progress directly into employment in the industry or to higher education. The course includes topics such as investigating the travel and tourism industry; UK and overseas destinations; customer service in travel and tourism; the business of travel and tourism; holiday representatives and handling air passengers, amongst others.

You will further develop your English, Maths and ICT skills to help you to complete your course work and prepare for further study or employment. Initially in year one you will study for a Subsidiary Diploma. Successful students will be invited to study for the Extended Diploma which they will complete in year two of the course.

A range of units relating to specialist areas of the industry are undertaken: Passenger transport issues, special interest tourism, hospitality operations in travel and tourism, residential study visit, sustainable tourism, and preparing for employment in the travel and tourism industry. Study visits to destinations are included in both years of the course as well as day visits to local visitor attractions, exhibitions and other venues.

You benefit from workshop facilities in an IT suite with computers that enable you to complete your course assessments. There are also open access computer resources in the library.

You will have access to trade journals, periodicals, travel guides, atlases and textbooks, computers, libraries and study visits. Teaching staff have wide experience of working within the travel and tourism industries, both in the UK and overseas. Many students progress onto Foundation Degrees or degree courses.

Five GCSE grades A*-C including English Language, BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above, with Functional Skills in English and ideally Maths at Level 2.

Successful completion can lead to a relevant degree or Foundation Degree, or employment in the UK and overseas in retail and business travel, tour operations, attractions and airlines/airports.
