Within a range of organisational environments, deception, its detection and management, can be an important contributor towards meeting key performance objectives and organisational goals. It is an acknowledged problem within some industries that customers do attempt to deceive in the hope of financial gain. Yet many attempts at detecting that deception are crude, intuition-based, often grossly inaccurate and, crucially, can offend and deter the honest customers rather than the dishonest ones. The key to successful deception management then is in improved detection rates whilst not alienating the honest customer.
