Level 2 Award in Food Safety

Essential practical information and guidelines for preventing food poisoning illness.

Who is it for? 

This is a first level course, which includes the basic safety knowledge necessary for all food handlers.  Whether food is the main product or service, as in manufacturing, catering or retail, or part of the service (for instance, in care homes, hospital wards or the voluntary sector), current food safety legislation can be applied.  This level of training is considered to be the minimum requirement in most cases, especially if staff are new, inexperienced and are involved in handling high risk foods. 

How long is the course? 

At Ellison-Webb Training, this course normally takes place over one day.  The start time is usually 9.00 – 9.15 a.m., and we finish at around 5.00 p.m.  Coffee and lunch breaks are included, but lunch is not provided on scheduled courses at Kavannagh House.  Sometimes courses can be arranged at different times for particular groups, for example, two mornings, afternoons or evenings.  

What’s the exam like?

The examination is structured as a multiple-choice assessment with 30 questions.  There is a maximum time limit of one hour, although most complete the paper within 15 - 30 minutes.  The pass mark is 20 or more correct answers.  

The test papers are available in a number of languages providing unique accessibility.   Here at Ellison-Webb Training, we can provide special language support throughout the course.  Please let us know if this is needed as extra time and resources must be arranged.
