What does the course include?
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is a qualification that covers the basic principles of food hygiene for caterers and other food handlers. It is valuable as a freestanding qualification or as an addition for people following other training programmes.
The qualification is firmly based on the Level 2 National Occupational Standards developed by the Sector Skills Council for the hospitality industry, and conforms to the qualification template developed by CIEH.

- The importance of food safety and knowledge of the systems, techniques and procedures involved
- Understanding of how to control food safety risks (personal hygiene, food storage, cooking and handling)
- Confidence and expertise to safely deliver quality food to customers.
- Associated food hazards
- Good hygiene
- Practice and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems
These topics are regarded by the Food Standards Agency as being important to understanding and maintaining good practice in the handling, processing and preparation of safe food.
This is an Ofsted accredited course.
This course is no concessions.
What do I need to get on this course?
There are no formal entry requirements for the Food Safety in Catering course.
How will I be assessed?
There will be a 60 minute multiple choice examination consisting of 30 questions. The examination will take place at the end of the course.
Where does it lead?
You can progress onto our CIEH Level 3 Food Safety course or our various other Health and Safety courses.
