Description
This course provides students with the opportunity to be taught and assessed in a real working environment. There will be theory sessions linked to practical sessions which will enable you to understand the physiological effects of exercise on the body. Students can take advantage of the on-site fitness suite at the James Watt Campus to enhance learning of the working environment as well as completing a work experience placement.

- Plan, teach and evaluate gym based exercise sessions
- Customer service and client confidentiality
- Award in fitness and Physical Activity
The course is designed to develop the necessary skills and knowledge, required to teach safe and effective fitness sessions. It is recognised by employers as a key measure of achievement.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSE's at Grade D or Equivalent. You should have an enthusiasm for working in the leisure industry, regularly attend the gym and need to have good communication skills and a sound underpinning knowledge of gym equipment to enable you to instruct in the gym effectively. You will be required to attend an interview and complete a practical assessment.
Delivery & Assessment methods
You will be assessed through a mixture of practical and theory assessments and be able to teach a variety of safe planned sessions to groups and individuals of different fitness levels and requirements. These assessments will be on-going throughout the year to enable you to meet full criteria and achieve your full qualification.
Progression
Students can progress to other fitness instructing qualifications such as Exercise to Music, Circuit Training and Level 3 Advanced Instructor. Or take up a career within the fitness industry i.e. Health clubs and/or leisure centres.
