Who is this course for?

This is a good course for you if you enjoy learning through practical work and if you have a passion for the outdoors and want to work as a stockman, farm worker, for DEFRA, or as a herdsman. This course will also suit you if you are currently working in the agriculture industry and wish to gain a recognised qualification.

What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of classroom sessions and lots of practical work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. What will I do on the course?

A typical working week will comprise of classroom sessions and lots of practical work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. You will learn how to use machinery, maintain an estate, understand grass and forage crop production and maintain the health and wellbeing of livestock such as cows, pigs, sheep and poultry. (including Maths and English). We also offer English and Maths GCSE resits. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, English and Maths. We also offer English and Maths GCSE resits.

What qualifications do I need?

  • 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, OR
  • Level 1 qualification in a related subject
  • Adequate standard of English and Maths
  • Mature learners with other qualifications and/or experience are also welcome
  • You should have a strong interest in working in the agricultural sector and demonstrate a commitment to succeed

One year-full time

What does it cost?

Learners will be required to purchase items of personal protective equipment (steel toe capped boots, overalls and wet weather gear) for use on the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
