Course Content

Postgraduate Certificate Stage

This first stage consists of two modules:

The Language & Culture Acquisition module which consists of the ETP course:

• Language & Culture Acquisition 

The Introduction to Literacy Programmes in Minority Language Contexts module which consists of the Literacy track of ETP's:

• Assignment Related Training course

Field Internship

Typically, after completing the Certificate stage of the programme, you will spend up to two years in an internship, in a literacy assignment on the field, normally with SIL or one of its partner organisations.

This internship is not formally part of the MA programme but it permits students to put their initial training into practice immediately and begin a field assignment at an early stage. It also provides the exposure to language and literacy projects that will normally be essential at the Diploma & Dissertation stages.

Postgraduate Diploma Stage

The Postgraduate Diploma stage, taken at ETP, also comprises two modules:

The Linguistic Aspects of Literacy in Minority Language Contetxts module, which consists of the following ETP course:

• Linguistics for Literacy

The Programme Planning, Societal Dimensions and Multilingual Education in Minority Language Contexts which consists of three ETP courses:

• Language Project Planning and Implementation
• Anthropology and Sociolinguistics Tutorials
• Multilingual Education in Minority Language Contexts
