Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Literacy or ESOL Teaching

This programme will:

• increase your theoretical knowledge of the field, including linguistics, theories of language and literacy acquisition and the social context of language and literacy use
• develop your knowledge of teaching methods derived from this body of knowledge
• assess your practice in applying theoretical knowledge in the classroom
• improve and accredit your own literacy and language skills.

This programme provides the opportunity to:

• gain the Additional Diploma in Teaching English (Literacy), which is now a requirement for all teachers of adult literacy
• continue on to the MA Adult Literacy, Language and Numeracy, within which the programme is embedded

Who is this programme for?

Current teachers of adult literacy who would like to refresh and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of adult literacy teaching while gaining the Additional Diploma in Teaching English (Literacy).

Entry requirements

A first degree or equivalent, a generic teaching qualification and appropriate experience of teaching adult literacy.

How are you assessed?

By coursework assignments of up to 5,000 words, including case studies, essays, seminar presentations and portfolio evidence of how you have applied the programme input in the classroom. There is also an assessment of teaching practice.
