How long is the course?

Our Access to HE courses can be studied within one academic year – up to 450 hours of classtime although some learners may be exempt from parts of the course if you already have GCSEs.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on the assignments which are set regularly throughout the course. Some of these assignments will be completed under exam conditions but most will be completed in your own time.

What will I study?

You will study a range of modules, some of which are mandatory and some which are optional. These could be:
- Communications
- Maths (Level 2)
- ICT
- Individual project in sociology or social policy
- Work placement
- Social policy
- Equal opportunities
- Law
- Sociology
- Psychology
- History

What does the course lead to?

You could progress to a wide range of related HE courses including:

- BA (Hons) Social Work (NHS funded - specifically to train social workers)
- BA (Hons) Youth Services
- BA (Hons) Social Care, Health and Community Studies

Vision West Notts also offers the Foundation Degree in Children's and Young People's Services.

Entry requirements

  • Recent successful study at level 2 in essay based subjects (do not accept Literacy L2 or NVQ)
  • Students for this Diploma must arrange a work placement in a social work setting for at least 100hours.

How much does it cost?

The course fees include registration with CAVA (the awarding body). You may be eligible for remission of fees if you receive state benefits or if the Access course is your first Level 3 qualification.
