Foundation Degree in International Spa Management

The foundation degree will prepare you for management positions and is designed specifically for employment within the beauty and spa industry.

Description

This is a vocational course designed to give you the advanced technical ability and knowledge that you will need to pursue a career in beauty or spa therapies.
You will also study subjects such as human biological science, marketing, operational issues and management studies, giving you a full overview of the skills required in modern beauty and spa managerial roles.

With this qualification your employability and progression opportunities will be enhanced, allowing you to develop your career in a chosen field in the beauty and spa industries.

This course is validated by the University of Derby.

How long is the course?

Two years.

Attendance is normally 7-10 hours per week at college and the completion of a work placement if you are not employed in an appropriate setting.

You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and work outside the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, examinations, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation and/or vocational setting.

What does the course lead to?

You can expect to progress in your current role or have the opportunity to apply for management positions in salons, resort hotels or cruise ships.

What can I go on to study?

On successful completion of this foundation degree you will be eligible to apply to the final stage of the BSc (Hons) International Spa Management programme at the University of Derby, or the BA (Hons) Business Management top-up degree at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, subject to entry requirements.

Completed foundation degrees are worth 240 CATS points in line with the UK universities’ credit accumulated transfer scheme.

Entry requirements

You will need to have an NVQ Level 3 in Beauty/Spa Therapy/Holistic Therapies, a BTEC National Diploma in Beauty Therapy at pass level or any other equivalent Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

Applicants without recent qualifications but who can demonstrate substantial, relevant experience through employment will be interviewed. You will also be expected to possess literacy skills at Level 2.
