Before progressing to the second stage of the course, students sit the CIBTAC examinations as the curriculum up to this point is virtually the same as for CIDESCO. These give a good indication of progress and offer the students an insight into how the CIDESCO exams will be at the end of the course.

The following nineteen weeks include a range of new practical subjects such as:

AROMATHERAPY - an in-depth study into the extraction, distillation and blending of thirty essential oils from plants, plus relevant massage movements.

REFLEXOLOGY - you will be introduced to the five energy concepts and meridians of Chinese medicine, the underlining history and philosophy of Reflexology, reflex areas in the foot and their connection to the body’s systems, pressure-point massage and the contra-indications.

There is an intensive period of revision of all subjects in preparation for the CIDESCO exams. You will also be required to write a 4000 word thesis about your chosen treatment and present it at the exam.

The final week incorporates both CIDESCO examinations in Beauty Therapy and Spa Programme. CIDESCO Beauty Therapy is a pre-requisite to the Spa Programme. Students who fail any part of the Beauty Therapy examination will not be able to take the Spa Exam. Any students confronted with this situation will be able to take their Spa examination and re-take Beauty Therapy with our next intake.

The formal teaching in both CIDESCO Beauty Therapy and Spa Programme takes place over twelve months after which you are required to have 600 hours of salon experience before receiving the CIDESCO Diploma. These hours can be achieved during your first job in any professional salon or spa in the world, provided you have the right to work in that country.

Francesca Twyman (left) and Mami Numazawa both signed up for the 11- month CIBTAC & CIDESCO course that started in November 2007 at The London School of Beauty & Make-up.

Mami found out about the course via the internet whilst a friend of Francesca’s recommended the course and School to her. “I wanted the best qualification and had been informed that CIDESCO was the highest and most in-depth beauty course for the industry,” says Francesca. “As I may wish to travel, this qualification is the only one accepted throughout the world”.

Francesca was excited by the fully working student salon, London Esthetique that is open to the public. “This gives the students at the School a practical insight to what it is like to work in a real salon and gives you the confidence when you first start working,” says Francesca. “This is the best way a student can experience a realistic salon environment and learn how to meet the expectations of demanding clients to professional standards.”

“I made an appointment to visit the School and look around the facilities on offer,” says Mami, who is originally from Japan. “I was very impressed, especially with the brightness of the building and the way it had a feeling of being up to the minute with what is happening in the beauty industry.” Francesca agrees.

“I think we both found the course very challenging, however once you get over the shock of how much studying is involved in the first couple of months you then really begin to settle down and enjoy the whole experience”.

Once finishing the course Mami plans to return to Japan and work in a skin clinic. Francesca intends to complete an Open University degree in nursing while working in a salon. “I will then combine both skills and train in administering Botox injections and laser therapy,” she says. “We would both highly recommend this course as it gives the therapist such a full in-depth knowledge of beauty therapy.”
