This sector designed course is endorsed by Alzheimer’s Society (UK) and has been developed in conjunction with Skills for Care and Foundation Degree Forward (FDF). It is a response to the National Dementia Strategy and the drive to improve the care received by people who have dementia.

A significant amount of the learning takes place in practice.
What can this course lead to?Success on the programme will ensure competence and ability to manage the care and support of people with dementia in a range of care settings. It also guarantees acceptance on the BSc (Hons) Evidence Based Practice award.
Resources and facilitiesThe course will be supported by the full range of elearning and Library and Student Support Services of the University and by pastoral and practice support from the University and associate staff.

Selection criteria- Four GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above
- One A-level or NVQ 3 (or equivalent)

The University of Cumbria and local partners are commencing a new award for carers (employed and informal) who work with people who have Dementia. Intended to raise the quality of care for people who have dementia, the new award is endorsed by Skills for Care, Alzheimer’s Society (UK) and Foundation Degree Forward. It is particularly aimed at those who attend to the needs of a person with dementia on a regular basis, delivering or managing care.
