- providing positive environments through interaction, providing activities and involving the children in their learning
- providing creative activities for children
- providing care for babies through practical placements in a baby room with hands-on experience

Learning is through practical activities and work placements. There will be tutorials to support you with meeting targets set for written work.

Work placements with local providers are arranged through the College. You are observed in your work placement and supported through our placement officer, assessor and your personal tutor.

All students are encouraged both to become independent learners and to work in groups to complete tasks.

You gain:

- a relevant Level 3 qualification recognised within the sector
- extensive knowledge of how children learn and develop
- a portfolio of evidence to show to future employers
- skills for lifelong learning

To apply for this course you need:

5 GCSEs grade A*–C including English language and maths
a full relevant Level 2 qualification including Level 2 functional skills in maths and English
enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). You must have a clear CRB with no criminal convictions, reprimands or cautions

We would also like you to have completed at least one week’s work experience in a nursery or school in the foundation/reception classes before the start of your course.

On successful completion of the course you can progress to employment in a variety of roles with public and childcare providers, including:

supervising children
team leader
nanny
play coordinator in a hospital
manager
deputy manager
assessor
nursery nurse supporting the community midwife,
special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator

There are 3 days in placement and 2 days in College per week.

This qualification is marked on a pass/refer basis. There are no UCAS points attached to this course.
