This course aims to provide students with a wide range of specialist skills and knowledge in many aspects of radio broadcasting. Students will develop a high level of practical and analytical skills in both on-air and production led units. Experienced lecturers deliver the units utilising state-of-the art production and broadcast suites.

Students will also have the opportunity to broadcast from the College Radio Station (RadioActive) throughout the academic year. The course covers editing, broadcast production, journalism, music programming and presentation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is suitable for those with 2 Highers, those who have completed the Higher syllabus or those who have successfully completed a non-advanced College course.

We will also consider candidates who have an interest in radio broadcasting and have some work experience either in hospital or community based radio stations.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course provides practical training in all aspects of radio broadcasting, both on-air and behind-the-scenes. Using lecturers who also work in the industry, students will gain skills in the College's state-of-the-art studios.

The HNC follows the usual unitised/credit based structure for this type of course. To gain the award a minimum of 12 credits are required.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of essays, reports, presentations, case studies and practical projects. Most of the assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

On successful completion students may progress to HND level, move on to degree study or enter employment in a media related industry.
