About This Course:HNC
This well established course develops radio production and broadcasting skills, including interviewing, scripting, presentation, news operations, sound recording, commercial production and digital editing.
HND
The second year of this course builds on the skills developed in the HNC. The focus is still on programme making, but goes beyond radio and develops a more sophisticated skillset – technical, production and creative – necessary to work at Producer level rather than that of a Broadcast Assistant.

- NC Media or equivalent SVQ, OR
- One Higher plus three Standard Grades at Credit level, OR

What You Study:HNC
The subjects you’ll study include: Radio Presentation, Music Programme Production, Radio Interviewing, Technical Operations, Recording and Editing, Law and the Communication Industries, and Scripting and Presenting for Radio News.
HND
Many of the HNC subjects are offered on the HND at a higher level like Advanced Editing and Studio Operations. You will also study Station Management developing creative content. You’ll tackle more complex programme-making activities in more challenging technical environments.
After The Course:Career
There are opportunities in radio for those with a variety of up to date skills, broadcasting knowledge and experience
Continuing study
Apply for second or third year of the BA (Hons) Broadcast Production course at the University of the West of Scotland.
How Long:HNC - One year, starting in August.
HND - Two years, starting in August.
Location:City Campus North Hanover Street.
