- enhance your understanding of sociological and social pedagogic theories and concepts of childhood and children's services, including an emphasis on children's participation and rights
- gain knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of people concerned with the care, education, health, welfare, advocacy or control of children and young people
- take part in a student exchange that will look at Danish approaches to social pedagogy.
Who is this programme for?
Anyone interested in social pedagogy and direct work with children and families, particularly young people in public care. It is relevant to people working in children's services, such as social care, health and education, children's rights and family policy, family support, youth work and the justice system as well as those working with young people in care and the arts.
Entry requirements
A good first degree in social science, education or cultural studies, humanities or a related field, plus professional experience of working with and for children and families, especially those living in disadvantaged circumstances.
How are you assessed?
By coursework assignments and a 20,000-word dissertation or 10,000-word report.
Attendance
Face-to-face daytime and evening sessions and some full-day blocks.
