NVQ 3 Hairdressing

Aim to become a fully-operational salon stylist with the NVQ 3 Hairdressing qualification. Ideal if you’ve completed the Level 2 qualification, this intensive one-year course covers advanced hairdressing techniques so you can work in the salon without supervision.

On this course you cover:
- health and safety
- promotion of products and services
- consultation
- advanced cutting techniques
- colour correction
- advanced colouring
- developing and enhancing your creative hairdressing skills

You'll also get involved in organising and taking part in photo shoots, and you will study functional skills in ICT or communications.

You are continually assessed during the year along with regular tests at the end of each unit. All assessments are through practical observation, oral questioning, written tests and assignments.

Learning will take place through the delivery of the 4-1-1 method. This will consist of four weeks of intensive training and two weeks of enterprise and assessment. Operational experience within a hairdressing salon is essential to support this intensive programme. This course requires a large amount of self directed study.

You gain NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing, and a functional skills qualification in ICT or communications. You'll also develop wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment. They include self confidence, working with others taking responsibility and time management.

Applicants for a Level 3 programme will normally have:
- at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (including some subjects related to the proposed area of study), and/or a completed Level 2 Award
- the willingness to study for an additional Level 2 qualification in English and/or maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

With this course you can become a qualified stylist at a fully-operational level able to perform advanced hairdressing services on the shop floor.
