Hairdressing NVQ 3

Hairdressing NVQ 3 is a course that suits mature students over 18 years old who have already completed the Level 2 qualification in hairdressing. It will allow you to become a fully operational stylist in the salon without supervision.

This is a one-year intensive course designed to achieve NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing.

It comprises the following units:
- health and safety
- promotion of products and services
- consultation
- advanced cutting techniques
- colour correction
- specialised perming (optional)
- hair extensions
- advanced colouring
- develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills

Operational experience within a hairdressing salon is essential to support this intensive programme. You will also be involved in organising and taking part in several photo shoots that are linked to producing a magazine of your work.

This course requires a large amount of self directed study and you will also undertake a functional skill in ICT or communications.

You gain NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing and a functional skill in ICT or communications. You also develop wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment including; self confidence, working with others, taking responsibility and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.

Applicants for a level 3 programme will normally have:
- at least four GCSEs at grade C or above (including some subjects related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed level 2 award
- the willingness to study for an additional level 2 qualification in English and/or maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

Qualified stylist at fully operational level to perform advanced services on the shop floor.

Work experience of 100 hours over the year is mandatory.

You will be continually assessed during the year along with regular written tests which are supported by oral questioning at the end of each unit. All assessments are through practical observation, oral questioning, written tests and assignments.

You will learn in our purpose built hairdressing salon fully furnished to industry standards. This is a 1 year full-time course. 100% attendance is imperative for successful completion.
