Etch Dance Company forms part of the Btec Level 4 HNC in Performing
Arts (Dance). As a one year intensive course it allows
undergraduate's to extend their dance training further whilst
working within the structure and ethos of a professional dance

develop creative projects within the local community. What will I
Study? A nationally recognised qualification equivalent to the
first year of an undergraduate degree. The course has focus on
independent learning and practical knowledge and skills. The whole
course will run as an Undergraduate Dance Company, you will be
assessed through the following units: Classical Ballet Background
and Performance, Contemporary Dance Techniques, Jazz Dance
Technique and Performance, Creative Arts Research, Creative Arts
Professional Practice, Choreography for Solo Performance, Devising
Performance and Physical Theatre Performance, Dance Practices In
The Community. This level 4 programme allows you to gain knowledge,
understanding and skills in dance preparing you for a variety of
progression routes in performance, choreography and teaching. How
will I be Taught? Study is informed by concepts and methods drawn
from disciplines such as anthropology, art and design, cultural
studies, ethnography, history, literature, media studies, music,
philosophy, politics, social policy and sociology. Activities may
be combined with video, film, TV, radio and multi-disciplinary
performance and also with work which integrates a variety of modes
of performance and creation, including other media and new
technology, and interdisciplinary and inter-media performance. How
will I be Assessed? You will be assessed continuously throughout
the year using a mixture of practical assessment and written
submissions. You should be able to demonstrate understanding and/or
ability in a range of the following: histories, forms and
traditions of performance, key practitioners and practices What our
students say? I have really enjoyed the HNC course. Not only has it
given me a lot of independence, it has also prepared me for
auditions and what to expect when I go away to professional dance
training next year. I have particularly enjoyed working with
professional practitioners.
