Course Code: A4518 Minimum Age: 16 Start Date: 02/09/2013 Course Length: One year Entry Requirements:

* Four GCSEs at Grades A-G (including English)

* One-day workshop/audition where you will be asked to present a solo dance performance

Core Skills:

Dancer; Personal Specification

Key Tasks:• preparing for performances by rehearsing and exercising;
• performing to live audiences
• studying and creating choreography;
• discussing and interpreting choreography;
• learning and using other skills such as singing - for example musical theatre, requires a combination of performance skills;
• taking care of the health and safety of yourself and others, which requires knowledge and observation of physiology and anatomy, as well as safe use of premises and equipment to avoid injury
• develop research and rehearse/polish performances in your own time
• liaising with arts and dance organisations
• managing the day to day running of the theatre, including front of house duties

Personal Specification
As a new member of the company, you will need the following skills and experiences;

• enthusiasm for the area of work
• previous dance training/experience
• commitment to the work and flexibility in times of rehearsal and performance (you will be required to work evenings)
• ability to memorise choreography
• ability to take direction, accept criticism, and work well under pressure
• focussed, self-disciplined and motivated
• communication skills
• creative and imaginative
• ability to work well as part of a team
• organised
• ability to reflect and evaluate own practice
• ability to manage own time effectively

Assessment:

Assessment is on-going throughout the course and requires you to complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Assessment activities that you may undertake include participating in practical workshops, rehearsals, performances, coursework, research, keeping journals, writing essays, giving presentations, discussing and evaluating work.

Academic Progression:

After successfully completing this course you could progress onto the full time two year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma programme in one of the four pathways of Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre, Production Arts or Music Practice.

Career Progression:

This programme offers an ideal starting point for a career in performing arts prior to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas or AS/A2 programmes.

Full Description:

As a member of Platform productions you will have the opportunity to develop a range of dance, academic and communication skills, as appropriate to working in the industry. You will also perform in public performances in our state of the art Platform theatre, take part in trips to the theatre and professional practitoner workshops.

On the course you will study ballet, jazz, contemporary and musical theatre alongside theory based work which will underpin your practical skills and support progression onto your chosen pathway. This exciting course is taught by professional tutors who have a wide range of experience in the dance industry to support you fully within your chosen career path.

This programme offers an ideal starting point for a career in dance before starting the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma.
