What will I Study? Performance of Dance: Students will develop the
physical, technical and mental skills necessary for effective
performance. Students will also explore and develop the expressive
skills required for effective performance. Choreography: Students
will develop their understanding of choreographic principles and be
encouraged to synthesise ideas, thoughts and meaning through
movement. Critical Appreciation: Students will develop critical,
perceptual, evaluative and reflective skills in response to their
own work and the work of others. Students will study a minimum of
two professional works. Safe Practice: Students will develop their
knowledge and understanding of health, fitness and safe working
practices relevant to performing and choreographing dances. How
will I be Taught? Delivery will take the form of practical
sessions, technique classes, class seminars, theory lessons and
individual tutorials. This is a one year course delivered over 3 10
week terms. Lessons will take place on Thursday afternoons between
4-30-6.30pm. How will I be Assessed? Unit 1: Critical Appreciation
of Dance - Written Paper (1 hour) Unit 2: Set Dance - Practical
Examination (Solo Performance ) Unit 3: Performance in a duo/group
dance (Controlled Assessment ) Unit 4: Choreography - Solo
Composition 1-1.5 minutes and Solo/duo/group - 2.5-3 minutes (As
Unit 3)
