This course is for those who want to develop skills to pursue a career in one of the disciplines of sport and exercise fitness. These include exercise physiologist, sports psychologist, sports nutritionist, biomechanist and performance analyst. The extended diploma is designed for students who wish to study sport, both theoretically and in a practical manner, at a higher level.

Candidates will also complete additional awards as part of their programme. These may include the Award in Leading Health Related Physical Activity Sessions, Principles of Coaching Sport Level 2 and the Award in Multi-skills Development.

End Qualification:

Extended diploma courses have 3 achievements points: you will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will have the opportunity to work towards either the diploma or the extended diploma in the second year.

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

Candidates are expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English language and science at grade C. Alternatively, students who have completed the BTEC level 2 diploma at distinction level will be considered.

Current students wishing to progress on to another sport programme must demonstrate:
- Good behaviour supported by a reference from the current course director
- Attendance to be at least 95%
- Achievement of all qualifications on the current course

There will be a confirmation day on the 29th August 2012 which should be attended.

Assessment:

The course is assessed through written assignments, practical tasks, presentations and professional discussions. Assignments are included for all units and are spread throughout the year. Students will have to pass each module to successfully complete the course.

Progression from this course:

The programme is designed primarily to prepare students for higher education at university. Candidates can also progress into further vocational training or directly into employment.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. There is a start-up cost of approximately £70 for the course. This will cover a CRB check necessary to work in schools, induction activity and supporting course materials. A college sports kit is also required at approximately £50 covering practical shorts and t-shirt, polo shirt and warm-up top.

Additional Information:

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
