NPTC City and Guilds Certificate in Work Based Landbased Operations
This product does not have fixed starting dates and/or places.
Students will attend 1 day a week for their Year 10 and 11 of
school. For students starting in September 2012 this will be a
Tuesday.
Lectures start at Bicton at 10.00am and will finish at 2.30pm.
The aim is to meet the needs of learners who work or wish to work in the Countryside industry and to allow the students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or career progression in the Countryside sector. We use naturally occurring opportunities and every week students will be timetabled to work in the grounds, gardens and farm at Bicton.

- Maintaining the safety of self and others in the workplace
- Maintaining structures, surfaces and equipment used
- Assisting with the movement of animals
- Assisting with the basic operation of a tractor
- Assisting with the planting and establishment of plants, forest and woodland sites
- Habitat management
Functional Skills
You will also gain nationally recognised functional skills
qualifications (English, Maths and ICT).
The teaching and assessment of these subjects is usually
embedded in the practical subjects covered.
A small amount of paperwork is needed for the student’s portfolio
although most of the assessment is through practical
observations.
Successful learners may progress to a full time post 16 Level 2 programme, Apprenticeship or employment.
