Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Business

This A Level standard course is aimed at those interested in managing within a business environment or running their own operation, with progression opportunities to university-level study.

Description

This course offers entry at either the National Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels) or Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A Levels).
You will gain skills and knowledge to help you function in a business environment, or to establish your own business, or go on to study at university. The course is equivalent to three A Levels.

You will study a mixture of core modules designed to enable you to work in a business environment or start up your own business.

Visits to business environments form a part of the course programme.

How long is the course?

Two years, full-time.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is undertaken throughout the course in the form of assignments, presentations and projects.

Subjects covered in year one include:

An Introduction to Marketing

Internet Marketing

Business Communications

Business Project Management

Market Research

Creative Product Promotion

You will also take maths or English GCSE resits where required (for students on the National Diploma only).

Second year topics will build on these and include:

Developing Teams in Business

Understanding Business Ethics

Starting a Small Business

Understanding Retailing

Business Accounting

Events Management

Health and Safety in the UK Business Environment

Business and Economic Environment

You will also undertake a higher level project throughout the two year course, which is equivalent to half an A Level and attracts UCAS points in the same way.

What does the course lead to?

Employment within a business environment or the ability to set up a small business.

What can I go on to study?

Foundation Degree in Business Management (available at West Notts College) which can then lead to a 'top-up' year to gain a full honours degree at university.

Further professional qualifications in a range of subjects such as accounting, marketing, law and personnel are additional options.

Entry requirements

For the National Diploma you will need four GCSEs at grade C or above including English OR maths, or a Level 2 Business qualification at merit grade may be considered.

For the National Extended Diploma you will need five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and maths.
