Methods of Teaching and Learning

The courses are taught by well qualified and experienced staff, the majority of whom have a business background. You will learn through case studies, group work and presentations before completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

Enrichment

The courses include a number of visits to local businesses. Guest speakers may be invited to explain how concepts studied in lessons are actually applied in the business environment.

Methods of Assessment

These are nationally recognised qualifications assessed solely through coursework with no exams. Assessment can be through either written assignments, presentations, role plays and team activities All units are assessed by the college and moderated by the awarding body. An overall grade of pass, merit or distinction is then awarded.

Resources

The College has excellent ICT facilities, Internet, text books, case studies, business documents and links to real businesses.

Progression

BTEC qualifications are valued by employers and higher education. The BTEC Level 3 qualifications attract the same UCAS points as A Levels. A business qualification could also support you when applying for jobs in business related careers such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, human resource management, marketing or sales.

Entry Requirements

Students are required to have five GCSE passes at grade C or above or the equivalent from a minimum of 4 subject areas, including Mathematics and English.

Additional Costs

During the course the students are charged for printing and there are also costs incurred when privately buying reliable storage devices to back up their electronic files. In addition, a number of visits may be arranged which will require students to make a contribution towards travelling costs.
