This Masters programme gives students a uniquely broad training in advanced research design, methods and statistics, in preparation forfurther postgraduate education or for a research career. The programme has a strong practical and applied element - students learn about applied interventions (including clinical, forensic, health, organisational and sport psychology interventions) and applications of research methods in applied contexts. The overall aim is to combine advanced reseach methods training with a professional focus. Students are provided with a) an understanding ofhow research can be applied and b) teaching and training from applied psychology professionals and clinicians.

Aims of the programme
The programme aims to:
- Enable students to apply their graduate skills to the study of psychology.
- Develop students' advanced awareness and critical understanding of the nature of psychological research.
- Develop students' advanced knowledge and expertise of different research methods.
- Make students fully aware of ethical issues and how to apply these to research in applied psychology.
- Enable students to be able to plan, carry out and analyse research in psychology, and to develop the understanding of how to apply research findings in this field to a variety of settings.
- Enable students to use the laboratories and specialist equipment appropriately to a highly competent level.
- Increase students' ability to use a variety of specialist software packages.
- Enhance to a high level, students' ability to work independently and extend students' ability to carry out a piece of independent research to a high standard.
