- The candidates will undertake a research project supervised by an expert in their field, to complement detailed taught modules in specialist areas including Cardiology, Neonatology, Hepatology/Renal and Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Allergy, Paediatric Infectious Disease and Critical Care.
PURPOSEThis programme is designed for all members of the
multidisciplinary team working in Paediatrics, including
experienced nurses at Band 6 and higher and medical trainees who
are post MRCPCH, or are experienced clinical fellows with middle
grade experience but not full membership. Overseas applicants are
encouraged to apply. This programme is suitable for aspiring
clinical leaders and researchers in Paediatrics.
DESCRIPTIONThis multidisciplinary programme is designed for
doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. The programme
content is research and evidence-based, with the aim of developing
students into excellent members of the interprofessional healthcare
team. The programme will give students a detailed understanding of
research methods and statistics applied to child health, the
ability to conduct methodologically robust research projects and
advanced knowledge of the management processes within modern NHS
Trusts.
Students have the option to choose to study for a Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or the MSc (180 credits). It is expected that students will take two years to complete the MSc programme.
Assessment is by a combination of one examination, written assignments and workplace-based assignments.
YEAR 1

- Adolescent Healthcare (Dr Marianne Samyn).
YEAR 2
Choice of one module from the following clinical areas (all 30 credits):
- Paediatric Cardiology (Professor Shakeel Qureshi)
- Neonatology (Dr Andrew Kapetenakis)
- Paediatric Respiratory & Allergy (Professor John Price)
- Paediatric Hepatology, Renal & Gastroenterology (Dr Mignon McCulloch)
- Paediatric Critical Care (Dr Sara Hanna)
- Paediatric Infectious Disease (Prof Mike Sharland).
Students will also undertake a supervised research module (60 credits) in an area of choice linked to the taught module, which may consist of clinical research or a literature review.
