Description

This programme brings together the study of media industries and cultures, combining a critical foundation in the history and theory of media and communications with hands-on practice and professional preparation (including research, networking and presentation skills). Courses are divided into three key areas: Media and creative industries theory and research (digital media culture, audiences, intellectual property, research methods); creative media practice (e.g., creative writing, screenwriting, digital media arts); and professional practice (e.g., work placements, visiting speakers, excursions and visits).

This programme brings together the study of media industries and cultures, combining a critical foundation in the history and theory of media and communications with hands-on practice and professional preparation (including research, networking and presentation skills). Courses are divided into three key areas: Media and creative industries theory and research (digital media culture, audiences, intellectual property, research methods); creative media practice (e.g., creative writing, screenwriting, digital media arts); and professional practice (e.g., work placements, visiting speakers, excursions and visits).

The programme offers a flexible model to suit individual interests, skills and levels of experience - students include both recent graduates and professionals seeking to enhance their skills. Placements with relevant companies and organisations are available to students wishing to enhance their experience in the media and creative industries. Individual research and production projects (in both audio and screen-based media) are encouraged. Students have a choice of concluding with either a written or practice-based dissertation.
