Get a broad knowledge base so you can work in the media and gaming industry or progress to a higher-level course. On the Diploma in Gaming and Animation you cover areas such as media research techniques, introduction to the media and gaming industries animation, digital graphics and computer game design.
You study 9 units which include:

You also learn how to use industry-standard software which includes
Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash.
In addition you study functional skills in English or ICT which has
a final exam.
All units are internally assessed by specialist tutors and
assessments take place in the form of assignments set throughout
the course. Grades are verified internally and externally to ensure
that national standards are met.
The course is 100% coursework. It includes written assignments and
practical sessions. You learn by completing projects and
assignments based on professional practice and realistic workplace
situations. Emphasis is placed on working and learning with others
and working to deadlines. You also need to be able to work
independently be well organised and take responsibility for your
own learning. Throughout the course you are also required to
complete additional tasks for example design work and research on
your home study days.
By working on a variety of different projects delivered through a combination of practical project work specialist workshops and lectures you develop your responsibilities. You gain a portfolio of work suitable for progression to the next level or employment. You use industry-standard software to develop professional presentation skills and design techniques too.
Applicants for a Level 2 programme will normally have:
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and/or a completed Level 1
award
- GCSEs to include English and Maths at Grade D or above or Level 1
Functional Skills qualifications
- The willingness to study for an additional qualification in
English and/or Maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
The course leads on to a Level 3 qualification such as the Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production or potentially directly into employment. It prepares you for creative media industry careers in areas like computer animation computer game design and multimedia work or possibly graphic/website design.
