This course is for those who want to develop skills to pursue a career in the sport, recreation and fitness industry. The Extended Diploma is designed for students who wish to study sport, both theoretically and in a practical manner, at a higher level. Students will follow the Sports Development and Fitness pathway, studying a range of modules. The course also provides a route into higher education.

Year 1: Students will be working towards

recreation industry. Students will work towards the following

- Principles of anatomy and physiology
- Physiology of fitness
- Assessing risk in sport
- Leadership in sport
- Fitness testing for sport and exercise
- Practical team sports
- Organising sports events
- Fitness training and programming
- Current issues in sport
The core and optional units will be delivered over 11 hours a week,
on top of which candidates will be able to complete additional
awards and/or contribute to academies. Additional courses may
include an award in leading health-related physical activity
sessions.
Year 2: Students will undertake a range of modules presented in a
semesterised format including:
- Sports development
- Sports coaching
- Sports and exercise massage
- Instructing physical activity and exercise
- Sports nutrition
- Psychology for sports performance
- Analysis of sports performance
- Practical individual sports
- Talent indentification and development in sport
Candidates will also complete additional qualifications as part of
their programme. These may include 1st4Sport Award in Multi-skills
Development and Principles of Coaching Sport.
Our King's Lynn sports courses are currently run at our sports
campus at Lynnsport, near to the college.

End Qualification:
Extended diploma courses have 3 achievement points: you will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will have the opportunity to work towards either the diploma or the extended diploma in the second year.
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
Candidates are expected to have a minimum
of 4 GCSE grades A to C, including English language. Alternatively,
students who have completed a First Diploma in Sport at merit
level. Those who complete the Sports Coaching and Activity
Leadership or Fitness Instructor courses with all of the
accompanying functional skills qualifications and additional awards
are eligible.
Current students wishing to progress on to another sport programme
must demonstrate:
- Good behaviour supported by a reference from the current course
director
- Attendance to be at least 95%
- Achievement of all qualifications on the current course
There will be a confirmation day on the 29th August 2012 which
should be attended.
Assessment:
The course is assessed through assignments, assessed practical activities, presentations and written tasks. Assignments are included for all units and are spread throughout the year. Students will have to pass each module to successfully complete the course.
Progression from this course:
This programme is designed to prepare students directly for employment. Successful students could also progress on to higher education at university or further vocational training.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. There will be a start up fee for this course to include kit and any resources you need to complete the course. This is usually in the region of £70. Full details will be made available to you before you begin your course. For those who are unable to afford this, there may be funding available through student support.
