This is a level 1 qualification designed to give an initial insight into the travel industry, full of interesting units of study taught in a lively and down to earth way. - Develop your ability and skills in hospitality, travel and tourism
- Access specialized studies directly relevant to hospitality, travel and tourism and related sectors in which learners are working or intend to seek employment.
- Access a stepping stone into employment in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry where some previous experience is necessary to gain initial employment.
- Gain a suitable qualification to progress on to a range of further study at levels 1 and 2.

- Customer service in travel and tourism
- Research a tourist destination
- Displaying travel and tourism products and services
- Building working relationships with customers
- UK travel destinations
- Recommending a package holiday
- The role of the overseas resort representative
- Schedule, charter and low cost airlines
- The role of air cabin crew
- Applying for a job in travel and tourism

Functional skills (English, maths and IT) are also an important part of the course and the work produced for your course will offer you the greatest opportunity to develop these skills. For example, if you take part in a role play or discussion, you could be developing your communication skills which will improve your English. At least one functional skill will accompany your course at an appropriate level for you.
In addition to your main qualification and functional skill you will also undertake a personal development qualification.

End Qualification:

BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 1

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

3 GCSE's grade E or above or entry qualifications at entry level 3. You will be required to successfully pass an interview showing enthusiasm and commitment towards this course. Individual cases outside of this criteria will be considered on their own merits.

Assessment:

A mix of internal and external assessments will take place in order to gain the qualification. These may include assignment work, presentations and role play.

Progression from this course:

Participants may look to continue on to a course in travel and tourism at level 2. Some may seek employment after completing this course.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. There is a start-up cost of approx £55 for the course, which will be used to obtain specific items to help you to achieve. There is also a range of compulsory educational visits to enhance the students' understanding of the range of career options within the industry. These trips will include one residential European visit, as well as a number of day trips to such locations as Cadbury World, London, Theme Parks, Zoos or Trade Fairs. A non refundable payment of £400 is required at the start of the course to cover the cost of these trips and visits. It should be noted that costs may vary slightly due to circumstances beyond our control here at the college.

Additional Information:

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
