For those people who are under confident, behaving assertively in order to make or refuse requests can be extremely difficult and bring on personal frustration and negative, and often destructive emotion. This results in aggressive or passive behaviour that recognises and demonstrates little self- respect, or respect for those others who are involved resulting in ineffective relationships.

Through consideration of your own assertiveness style and and a greater awareness of the levels available to you, you will be able to identify the best approach to take in a given situation, or with a specific individual and plan out what to say and how to deliver the message.. You will be given the time to practise the tools you have covered and consider how you would apply them to your own current or future situations.

Course Content

  • Reflection of current difficulties faced when there is a need to be assertive leading to setting of personal objectives for the course
  • Self awareness – recognise current beliefs about yourself and those around you and their impact upon you
  • The importance and defining of confidence, self esteem and self belief - how to build each of these vitally important elements
  • Dealing with negative self-talk and tackling unproductive feelings
  • Assessment of your assertive behavioural style
  • Identification and defining of assertive body language, phraseology, and tonality of voice
  • Practical application of techniques used in making and refusing requests
  • Overcoming challenging situations and making assertive communications more easy
  • Resolving and preventing internal conflict with self and external conflict with others
  • Moving Yourself Forward – how will you apply your new knowledge

Who is this course for?

This course has been designed for anyone who wishes to build confidence in communicating more assertively. It will benefit those who wish to develop both confidence, self belief and self esteem through the recognition of our entitlements as an individual so that they are now able to interact with others as perceived equals and develop mutually respectful relationships rather than being submissive or aggressive when pressed by others. In a safe and supportive environment the course allow individuals to reflect and become more self-aware of who they are, and why they behave the way they do so that mental and behavioural changes may be made.
