The music industry is continuously evolving and developing in new and innovative ways. This course offers learners the opportunity to study a diverse range of music and music technology topics, including the music industry, computer-based music creation and studio recording. Please note, this course is for the beginner to intermediate musician/performer/DJ and is not suitable for those that have no experience in the field of music.

This practical course allows you to develop your skills and knowledge of the music industry, music creation using computers and more traditional studio-based recording techniques. Classes will take place in our specialist Mac suites and recording studios using software such as Apple, GarageBand, Reason and Logic Pro. You will be formally assessed through practical coursework assignments. All our tutors are actively involved in the music industry and will use this up-to-date knowledge to provide you with detailed feedback that will help you to constantly improve your music and music technology skills.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will gain a Music Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate. In addition to this, personal effectiveness and professional development units provide time for students to research the music and media industries and define the qualities, qualifications and skills required to find employment. Access to careers advice allows learners to look at all the opportunities open to them to study music, performance or media at a higher level. Additional learning and pastoral support is offered through the tutorial system. As part of the course, students are required to demonstrate specific literacy, numeracy and ICT skills alongside their main subject studies. These Functional Skills will help students with their coursework and also prepare them for further education, life and work.

Four GCSEs grade D or above including English Language or a BTEC Level 1 Diploma (with Functional Skills Level 1). You will be interviewed and should bring along a portfolio of recent music-related work. A satisfactory reference is required. Applicants should also have some music experience either as performers or as DJs and/or producers.

You could progress to the Music or Music Technology BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas.
