Biology A-level
If you want to learn more about Biology then this A-level combining theoretical and practical work can increase your understanding. It covers a range of topics, including cells and molecules, and develops your practical and research skills. You will also learn theories on the contribution of science to the economy and society. You will be taught in our well-equipped laboratories and the course includes a residential field trip.
Vocational Science Route: If you wish to study more practical applied science you can apply to study either the BTEC Level 2 or Level 3 Applied Science Diplomas. Both of these courses incorporate units of study covering Physics Biology and Chemistry.

You will study scientific theory and conduct practical work. You
will learn how society makes decisions about scientific issues and
how science contributes to the success of the economy and society.
Your study will include the following biological topics: Unit 1:
Cells exchange and transport; Unit 2: Molecules, biodiversity, food
and health; Unit 3: Practical skills in biology; Unit 4:
Communication, homeostasis and energy; Unit 5: Control genomes and
environment; Unit 6: Practical skills in biology two.
Your study will be a combination of practical and theoretical work.
You will be taught by our experienced staff in fully equipped
classrooms. Part of your study will involve a live dissection.
Your Biology AS level can be a stand-alone qualification or lead on to A2 study. You will have your own specialist personal tutor who you will meet individually or as part of a tutorial and they will help you set review and achieve your targets. There is an extensive programme of support to help you make higher education decisions and moving on to university. The vast majority of A level students progress successfully to higher education. There is an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities on offer and you will be encouraged to select from a range including volunteering, work experience, sport and performing. For those of you considering a career in healthcare we arrange for visiting speakers from healthcare professions to come and speak to students.
Six GCSEs grades A*- C, including a minimum grade B in biology/additional science or maths and a grade C in English Language. A minimum of a D grade at AS allows you to progress onto your second year of study.
This course can lead to future study in the areas of Veterinary and Medical Studies Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences General Biological Plant Animal and Environmental Sciences.
