The Programme
This construction course provides the practical skills and knowledge required to successfully embark upon a progression route in college or a career in the construction industry as a bench joiner. The focus is based on the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required in the construction industry. There are six units including Health and Safety, Knowledge of Information Level 3, Building Methods and Technology Level 3 plus the main Wood Occupations units. Other topics include setting up and using fixed and transportable machinery, manufacturing complex shaped joinery products and producing complex shaped joinery product details. All units to be assessed for knowledge by questions and answers on our Virtual Learning Environment system. Synoptic practical assessments will take place to check that you have acquired the strict criteria in practical activities. Functional Skills in English, Maths, ICT, tutorials and effective thinking skills will be included in the programme content.
The Programme Content

Entry Requirements
Completion of the Level 2 course in Bench Joinery is mandatory and work experience is strongly recommended.

There will be costs of £30 for materials.

Progression
Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to an Apprenticeship (NVQ Diploma Level 3 in Bench Joinery), further training courses such as Architecture, Surveying and the Built Environment BTEC Subsidiary Diploma or other higher education courses are possible progression options.
