This course is for students who wish to improve their practical and
theoretical techniques in their chosen construction area. It
provides an opportunity to obtain a sound base in the knowledge and

to enrichment and sports facilities What will I Study? The course
is run over two and a half days each week and is designed in
individual units of competence in specific areas of the joinery
both practical and theoretical aspects of the craft are covered.
The units of competence include: • Health & Safety in the
workplace • Communications with fellow workers and customers •
Organise work, selection of tools and equipment • Handling and safe
storage of materials • Unit knowledge tests. • Practical training
tasks. • End Knowledge Exam How will I be Taught? The course is
broken into 75% Practical Training and 25% Theory Training.
Practical training is hands on in work shops following
demonstrations and becoming proficient with a range of hand tools
and wood working machinery. Theory is generally classroom based
with a range of delivery and activities to suit individual learning
needs. How will I be Assessed? Assessments for theory will be test
based both with on-line tests and some paper based versions.
Practical work will be tested in time constrained tests to
specified tolerances. What our students say? A great way to learn
