The Programme
This programme is designed to help you understand the theories
which underpin work in health and social care settings. You will
need to have a genuine interest in finding out about people of all
ages and with varying needs. You will explore issues surrounding
people from birth until death. This programme is made up of a
collection of different qualifications covering a two year period.
Progression from the first year to the second year is not
automatic. To progress from the first year to the second year you
will need to have successfully completed all the assignments set,
have a good behaviour and attendance record and be happy that a
career in health and social care is still your goal.
The first year of this programme is made up of a BTEC 90 Credit
Diploma, a Personal Effectiveness qualification and possibly other
courses such as healthy living, infection control or food safety.
There is an option to resit GCSE English or Maths if you have a
grade D.
The Programme Content
This is a full time Level 3 programme that is designed to help students understand the theories of working in health and social care. It is equivalent to three A Levels and attracts UCAS points that are needed for those who want to go to university.
Entry Requirements
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or equivalent,
we would strongly recommend you have English Language at C grade or
above - this course is 100% course work and those without an
English GCSE have struggled in the past. Ideally you should have
Maths at 'C' grade, but if you have achieved a 'D' grade, we can
offer a re-sit opportunity. Students who have successfully
completed a Level 2 programme to at least a Merit are also welcome
to apply.
At your interview you will need to show that you have a real
interest in working in the health and social care sectors. You will

This course is free to learners aged 16 to 19 years. You will have to pay for an enhanced CRB check, please see CRB Checks information below. You will have to pay for the costs of trips and visits that are part of your course. You will also need a memory stick to store your work on and money for printing*.

Teaching - all stages including Primary
Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care, Sociology with
Psychology and Early Childhood Studies all of which are available
at Petroc.
Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care
This programme is not suitable for those wishing to go into
medicine or dentistry.

Two years full time.

This course starts in the 2013 / 2014 academic year.
DBS Checks
As this course requires you to undertake work placements with children and/or vulnerable adults, a DBS check (formerly CRB check) is required. This will be carried out by Petroc prior to you starting the course in September and costs £53. Please click on the following link for
