Course Aims

A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start or progress a career. It is equivalent to three A Levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go into higher education first. A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma can be taken full-time or part-time and is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.

Special Features

The programme is designed specifically for those intending to seek a career in Travel and Tourism. In addition to classroom teaching and in support of your studies, there will be visits to local facilities and events. Students will receive talks from guest speakers and industry experts and there may an opportunity for students to achieve a Welcome Host qualification.

Residential visit in Year 2 of the Programme. Visits (including the Residential visit) will be funded by students. A period of work placement in Year 2 will also be included. This will help students appreciate the operation of a travel and tourism organisation in the 21st Century.

Assessment Methods

Units are internally assessed and graded by lecturers. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Course Update

The 90 Credit Diploma is the first year of the Extended Diploma. The 90 Credit Diploma is a qualification in its own right, equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels, and a few students choose to leave the college with this qualification. If you apply to complete the Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A-levels, you will be first enrolled on the 90 Credit Diploma. Progression to Year 2 of the Extended Diploma will be automatic provided your performance in Year 1
reaches a satisfactory standard.
