The BTEC Level 2 in Travel and Tourism is a one year course and is designed to give students the opportunity to gain a realistic idea of what a career in the Travel and Tourism sector can offer. General information

The BTEC Level 2 in Travel and Tourism is a one year course and is designed to give students the opportunity to gain a realistic idea of what a career in the Travel and Tourism sector can offer. If you are thinking of a career in the airline industry, tour operations or retail travel or any of the related travel and tourism industries this course may be the one for you. Students will have the opportunity to take part on a variety course related visits of and will also gain knowledge of the industry from a wide range of speakers.

To be successful in this industry, it is important to have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with a range of people, have a commitment to develop your own personal qualities, be enthusiastic, energetic and have a keen interest in developing skills and techniques.

  • Understanding Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • Understanding nature and the effects of world travel
  • UK tourist destinations
  • Exploring airports and airport operations
  • Preparing for employment in the Travel and Tourism sector
  • European Holidays
  • Exploring Marketing in Travel and Tourism
  • Organising a travel and tourism study visit
  • Holiday Planning

Teaching and assessment

This course is assessed through continual internal assessments throughout the year and a number of assignments both written and practical. Students are required to complete a portfolio (file) containing evidence of assignments, practical performance, presentations, group exercises and discussions. Teaching is through a series of lectures, group discussions and investigations, presentations from outside organisations, hands-on experience with different organisations and practical activities including team building exercises. Students are given plenty of help and direction from staff and are encouraged to undertake their own research and additional reading.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs A* - D including English and maths or BTEC Introductory Diploma (merit). Foundation learning qualification of at least 26 credits with functional skills at Entry 3/Level 1. Compulsory attendance at a college interview and presentation with assessment in English and maths.

Additional course costs

There will be a cost for external trips and visits which are to be paid for at the start of the year.
