Work Experience
In addition to passing the examinations, students are required to
have at least two years relevant work experience. Accounting
Technicians Ireland will recognise any relevant experience obtained
prior, during or after completing the examinations. The reason for
the work experience requirement is that, as a member of Accounting
Technicians Ireland, you will be offering your services as a
qualified Accounting Technician so you must actually be able to do
the work involved as well as understand the theory behind it.
Accounting Technicians Ireland do not specify the precise experience to be obtained given the variety of Accounting Technician roles. Obviously, if you are already working in industry, commerce, the public sector or private practice while studying for your qualification, you will be gaining valuable experience for yourself and putting the theory into practice.
Once students have passed the examinations and obtained their two years relevant work experience, they may be eligible for Full membership of Accounting Technicians Ireland to use the letters MIATI.
Course Aims
Accounting Technicians have excellent career prospects and there is always a strong demand for their skills in the work place. An Accounting Technician may work in a wide variety of finance roles for many types of organisations, including manufacturing companies, local and central government, the health service, banks and insurance companies and private accountancy firms. Self employment is also a possibility for qualified technicians. In addition, many who qualify as Accounting Technicians go on to continue their studies, using the qualification as a stepping stone to eventually become professional accountants with one of the accounting bodies. Accounting Technician students come from all walks of life. You may already be working or going to college, or perhaps you are a mature student who wants to get back into work. You may even be currently working in an accounting related area, and although experienced, wish to pursue a formal qualification.
